What would you associate Crysanthamum flowers with?
If you are a Japanese, Cryosanthamum dolls in Autumn, family Buddist shrine, and the like would come to your mind immediately.
However, Crysanthamum can be a lot more than that.
It was really an eye opening experience for me to see this gorgeious flower arrangement at a hotel lobby in Virginia last week.
Come to think of it, Crysanthamum flowers in North America are used very differently from what we, Japanese, normally use.
I must use more imagination and enjoy different style of flower arrangement this coming season.
Can't wait to see my mother's yard filled with Crysanthamum flowers.

Banana Flower
Have you ever seen a Banana Flower?
I found one in the courtyard at a Hotel in KL, Malaysia the other day.
Of course, what I saw there was different from what you normally eat, but what a happy and pretty flower!
Banana is very close to the life in tropical countries.
Sometimes Banana leaves can be plates to serve meals, sometimes a material for houses, etc.
It is also very important for wild life.
In fact, monkeys are very good at finding a good sweat banana trees, according to my Thai friend.
I had a chance to try a small wild banana with seeds in it, but it was unforgettably good! It was just so good!!

After returning from one week business trip to South East Asia, I noticed that it is rather quiet after dark in my neighborhood.
Soon, I realized.
The chorus of cicadas after dark is now replaced with insects' orchestra.@
After the cleartoned cicadas around sunset hours, there used to a chorus of large brown cicada throughout the Summer.
Nice long autumn evening must be approaching now. - August 25, 2000.

* Well, the summer is not gone yet, on the second thought.
A big chorus of large brown cicada and others woke me up this morning. - August 26, 2000.

Sunflower

Blue sky, chirp of cicadas and sunflowers. Summer is here.
This bright sun flower always gives me a courange to go thru hot and muggy Japanese summer.
In my childhood, there used to be many tall sunflowers near my parents' house, but it is very unfortunate that there are not as much nature anymore.
It is very ironic to see my apartment in Tokyo has more nature than where I grew up now.
I am even enjoying cleartoned cicadas every sunset.
Yes, the bear park I was watching thru my living room window in February is now covered with very deep green and filled with lives.

Wild flower I saw in North Calfornia in June, 2000.
Entire area was so dry but there were suddenly a bunch of those flowers along the highway.
Nice breeze were bringing refreshing flegrances from Sage bushes around the area.
But be careful with rattlesnakes!

My living room has a quite nice park view.
The park is rather hilly and covered with lots of trees.
During winter, most of them are bear and entire area is so brown and empty.
However, there are some camellia trees with green leaves and
a couple of red flowers are coming out now.
I was inpressed with the brightness of those red flowers
because it was telling me that the spring is just around the corner.
So, I decided to paint this warm feeling.
However, my patio is rather too far away to see the flower well enough.
I went outside but the tree is too high up on the hill and could not see it well again.
I started walking into the park and finally found this one.
In fact, it's been almost 10 years since I painted last time.
This camellia flower is not only bringing me a spring,
but also the things being left somewhere.
